The rain is heavy and has thoroughly wet everything. At breakfast one morning, Gael falls over in his porridge. Martain has noticed that the cooks eyes are all white. Martain prompts people into action. The cook is subdued, and people go to see what is wrong with Gael. At this moment, in the courtyard, someone is noticed firing a flaming arrow over the wall of the covenant (from the inside). People rush in to tell the magi and find the chaos. Gael is severely affected by some type of poison. He has a very difficult time casting, or even acting, but he heads outside. At the walls of the covenant, are many large trees. They are attacking the walls. In the branches are some vine men, attempting to come over the wall. Gael begins casting at the trees, and has limited success. The poison is affecting him badly. Martain and Robert gather forces and try attacking the trees. They get together torches and oil, and try to hit the trees with oil pots and then set fire to them. This has some success, and seems to hold the vine men at bay. While this is happening, Martain notices that the rain has turned to oil, and that everything is slick with it. Torches in the sconces on buildings and at the wall are beginning to ignite bits of it. During this fight, the basilisk makes an appearance (determined by the screams of some men). It has killed a couple of guards, and is within the covenant walls. Terryn burns some vis and quickly throws a spell to chill stones in the courtyard. This slows the creature enough to allow retreat into the great hall. Inside, the group begins taking stock. They determine that Klaes the Pious fired the arrow, and draw the conclusion that people who have had something taken (both the cook and Klaes fall into this category) are at risk. They may be turned and so are a danger. These people are gathered up, and put into a room in the basement. The group decides they will have to abandon the covenant if they want to live. Outside, fire can be seen taking hold; someone has lit the oil raining from the skies and it is now a rain of fire. Hanse gathers up the vis, does his best to hide the books, and puts together what provisions he can. Robert and Martain are rallying the rest of the covenant while Raymond tries to calm them. Raymond prays for the safety of all, and God hears his prayer; they are untouched by the fire when they exit the covenant. Martain goes to rescue or see to one of his men who he thinks may have fallen to the basilisk. He and his men make for the front gate. Robert, Hanse, Raymond, Gael and the rest of the covenant (except those they believe may have been compromised) head for the granary where Jon Lane leads them through faery to escape. On the Road Terryn Falls ill from the wounds received from the wraith. The group determines they need to get him to a place to rest. They find an abandoned set of ruins, and camp there. Unknown to them, this is a place used as a staging area by the Mage Whisperer. The bad guys attack the group sans Inrisor and Francois. They attack just at sunset, nail the group with some sleep spell. Sylvie's wolf is not affected, and rouses the group. During the fight Albus is controlled, and attacks Sylvie nearly killing her. Albus then manages to get himself under control, and attacks the retreating hedge wizard hurting him badly. One of the hedge wizard's bodyguards cuts him very badly before Albus can get him into the air. They question the man, make him swear he will leave the field, and let him go. It is clear that the bad guys know too much about them. Inrisor and Francois arrive in the aftermath. Inrisor immediately begins hunting the hedge wizard and his companion. The trail dead ends. It is clear they vanished in some strange way. The group decides to return to Salle se Tromper to recover (Albus, Sylvie and Terryn are all badly injured). While at the covenant, Jon Lane shows up. He tells them folks escaped from the covenant and roughly what happened. He is enlisted to help in tracking the Mage Whisperer through faery, but the group never catches up. Raymond prays and is given a vision. He sees three possibilities: 1.They attack directly and are badly hurt or killed 2.They are more clever and subtle, but eventually this ends just like number 1 3.They are patient and wait for a season or two, go home, and continue with life. The group opts for number 2, swaps out injured folks, and heads for the covenant. In the Fight At the covenant they try various actions against the camp of the bad guys, and have limited success. They manage to kill some scouts. Inrisor does a fly over casting lightning. His lightning misses its target and the wind is pulled from beneath his wings. Inrisor pushes Raymond to help. Raymond is resistant because he believes they have been told not to do this (from his vision). He is convinced to pray and brings about a heavy storm over the enemy camp. As a tactic, the group moves in and out through faerie, and a group of fae want Jon Lane. They do not give him up. They decide they are pressing their luck, and opt to return to Prades and wait it out.
