Character Story
Filius comes from a small village in the central portion of Francia. He was born to peasants, and spent the early parts of his life in a farming area.
Filius was taken while young. He was identified by his odd looks (flame colored hair) and the proclivity for fires to start spontaneously around him. His parents were killed in one such fire. Flambeau found him soon after the event (fortunately for Filius), and began training him. Filius has only vague memories of his parents, and no real fondness (they were very afraid of him).
Filius is a big believer in the Order and its goals: conquer and grow. He has deep respect for Flambeau. Flambeau is very much a replacement "father figure".
Filius was selected to aid the efforts of Calor Novus because of his power with fire and his natural leadership. It was anticipated that he would be one of the "big guns" to aid in taming the Languedoc region. He was happy to go along, and even more so when Inrisor was also selected. They shared time in their apprenticeships, and became close friends.
Filius fell in lust with Francois on first seeing him. He was thrilled to have this powerful man assigned as his (and Inrisor's) body guard. This feeling has only grown with time. If push came to shove, Filius would be hard pressed to choose between duty to the Order and love of Francois. Likely he would come down on the side of duty, but he would be torn.
In the summer of 805, Francois was killed campaigning, and Filius changed. He became harder, less discriminating on "Join or Die" (with emphasis on "Die"), and began pursuing non-Hermetics much more relentlessly. He is out actively seeking non-Hermetics avidly most seasons, spends little time in the lab, and has begun incursions into the Iberian peninsula. He is attempting to leave a trail of ash behind him, making no discrimination between the guilty and the innocent.
